Emily Kai Bock presents Spit Gold Under An Empire which is a hip-hop documentary that focuses on the lives of underground rap artists. It follows Mykki Blanco, Angel Haze, C.J Fly, Kirk Knight The UnderAchievers.

Last week I attended the screening for New American Noise, a Nokia x Sundance project. The screening at Soho House in New York, featured four of the six mini documentaries looking at the music scene in several American cities. Spit Gold Under An Empire was a definite favourite.

Emily focuses on the less publicized side of Hip Hop culture in New York City, as she offers insight and taps into the heartbeat of the music, culture and the city that birthed it. It shows that these rappers have committed themselves to making the music they want to hear, the music that represents the streets, with or without radio play.
