My love for crop tops extends all the way back to my childhood. Although I was lucky enough to be an eighties baby, I grew up in the nineties, making it impossible to avoid crop tops – no matter which Spice Girl you were.
I still remember going to Woolworths (R.I.P.) around the age of 7 and begging my mum to buy me one of the cropped bra tops with teddy bears on them. And when she finally gave in, I never took it off. Later in life, I was less successful a getting a belly button ring at 13, but that’s another story.
Today I’m spreading the love of crop tops, an item very dear to my heart. I wear one pretty much every day, even if I’m in a giant hoody, somewhere underneath all the layers, there is a tiny, midriff-bearing top. I’ve DJed in a variety – from Alexander Wang to Primark and I have cropped sleeveless tops, cropped long-sleeve tops, the list is endless. I’ve even taken a pair of scissors to jumpers to make them cropped. Maybe I have a problem.
In case you didn’t believe the borderline obsession, here’s a selection of photos of me in crop tops from the last year or two….
